Commercial Switch and Receptacle Replacement

Like-for-like replacement of worn, loose or damaged switches and outlets in offices, retail, restaurants and rental units, one device or a full floor.

outlet or receptacle replacement 2

A receptacle that no longer grips a plug, a switch that has to be jiggled, a cover plate with a brown scorch mark: in a commercial space these are small devices with outsized consequences, from a point-of-sale terminal that drops offline to tenant complaints and fire risk. No Shorts Electric Inc replaces worn and damaged switches and receptacles in offices, retail stores, restaurants, medical suites and multi-family buildings across Nassau and Suffolk County, one device at a time or across an entire property.

What the replacement covers

This is a like-for-like replacement: we remove the failing switch or receptacle and install a new device of the same type and rating in the same location. Where the conductors behind the device show nicked, brittle or discolored insulation, we clean them up and reinsulate them before the new device goes in, so the connection behind the wall is as sound as the face you see.

Devices we routinely replace in commercial settings:

  • Standard and heavy-duty duplex receptacles at desks, counters and equipment stations
  • Receptacles in break rooms, kitchens and back-of-house areas that see constant use
  • Single-pole and multi-location switches in offices, corridors and storage rooms
  • Switches and receptacles in rental units during tenant turnover
  • Cracked, painted-over or mismatched devices and cover plates during a refresh

If a device has failed because the circuit behind it is overloaded or miswired, we tell you before replacing it rather than installing a new device that will fail the same way.

Why worn devices matter in a business

Receptacles wear out from repeated plugging and unplugging. In a commercial setting that happens dozens of times a day at a register, a conference table or a corridor outlet used for cleaning equipment, and the internal contacts loosen until the plug sags and the connection arcs. Switches fail from the same volume of use, and a switch that feels warm or works intermittently is already arcing inside. Signs it is time to call:

  • Plugs fall out or have to be propped in place
  • Outlets or switches that are warm, discolored or smell of heat
  • Buzzing or crackling when a device is plugged in or a switch is flipped
  • Equipment that cuts out when the cord is nudged
  • Cracked faces or exposed terminals after a bump from a cart or furniture

For property managers, replacing every worn device in a unit during turnover is far less disruptive than three separate service calls after the new tenant has moved in.

How we do the work with minimal disruption

Before touching a device we identify its circuit at the panel and shut only that circuit down, so a register or a server rack elsewhere on the floor stays live. Multiple devices on the same circuit are grouped so each area loses power once, not repeatedly. For restaurants and medical offices we work before opening or after hours. For office floors we work station by station around your staff and tidy each one before moving on. Every new device is tested for correct polarity, grounding and voltage before the cover plate goes back on, and we leave you a list of what was replaced and anything we noticed that needs attention later.

Code, permit and safety notes

Replacement devices must match the circuit's voltage and amperage rating and must be grounded properly. Where the code now requires ground-fault protection at a location that once had an ordinary receptacle, such as near sinks in a commercial kitchen or restroom, we install the protected device the location calls for. Conductors are reinsulated with materials rated for the purpose. All work follows the applicable electrical code and local town requirements, and we handle any permit or inspection the scope requires.
